The MSAD 49 Board of School Directors is pleased to announce after a rigorous selection process from an impressive candidate pool, we have selected Roberta Hersom as our permanent Superintendent. We thank all the numerous candidates who applied and showed interest in our district.
The Board conducted a comprehensive search process, which included gathering and considering feedback from district stakeholders (parents, community, staff, teachers and administrators). We began advertising for the position last December, additionally we asked the Maine School Management Association to conduct community forums, and we posted an online survey to gather input from a wider audience, all of which guided our process.
Consistent themes identified through the survey and forums included the desire for a superintendent, who, first and foremost, demonstrates a commitment to the needs of students, is approachable and interested in building a collaborative learning environment and community, and is someone who demonstrates honesty and integrity.
For the Board, a key consideration in selecting Mrs. Hersom was that she has consistently demonstrated the above and a deep commitment and know-how to effectively lead the district forward in continuing to fulfill its educational mission; which is centered on creating and delivering positive and transformative learning opportunities that help all of our students recognizance their full potential. She recognizes the importance of empowering others with guidance, support, and ongoing communication. She speaks highly of the dedicated and highly skilled teachers and staff in MSAD49.
We are confident that Mrs. Hersom will effectively lead the district forward in its educational mission, by working collaboratively with the teachers, staff, parents, teachers, and the community.
Thank you,
Jenny Boyden
